Karlsson Consulting Services A.B.
About Me
Learner, Collaborator, Independent Educational Consultant and Curriculum Specialist
I'm Glen Karlsson, an independent educational consultant with over 23 years of international school experience and a passion for curriculum development. Having worked in diverse educational settings across the globe, including in Sweden, Australia, Japan, China, Guatemala, Romania, Denmark, and the UAE, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to empower schools and educators in their journey of continuous improvement.
Moving internationally as a child has instilled in me a profound appreciation for the challenges and opportunities that third-culture kids and diverse communities face in international school environments. Understanding the intricacies of cultural transitions, I am committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment that nurtures the unique identities of every student.
As someone who does not traditionally fall into the demographic that has held leadership positions in international schools, I am deeply aware of the importance of diversity, representation, and empathy in educational spaces. I embrace this responsibility wholeheartedly, striving to create a more equitable and inclusive educational landscape for all students and educators.
From my experiences teaching elementary, middle school and high school, to serving as the K-12 Curriculum Coordinator at Copenhagen International School, taking a divisional leadership role at Shanghai American School and later as the Director of Learning at the American School of Dubai, I have always been driven by a deep love for curriculum and its transformative impact on student learning.
I have facilitated the Curriculum Leadership in the International School course at the Principal's Training Center since 2014, and over the years, I have engaged with various accreditation bodies such as IB, CIS, WASC, and MSA, and have guided schools through the process of self-studies and preparation for accreditation.
I believe in forming meaningful and enduring partnerships with schools that center around student learning. I am dedicated to assisting schools in conducting comprehensive curriculum audits, undertaking thorough curriculum reviews, and effectively unpacking standards to create well-planned and student-centered learning experiences.
My services extend to aligning assessment methods with standards, implementing standards-based reporting systems, and supporting school leadership teams in curriculum development and planning for neurodiversity and (DEIJ) in the learning program. I have also experience in measuring the skills and dispositions in the curriculum, and in play-based early-childhood prorograming.
I also partner with schools to help them use structures to act on their strategic planning and monitor strategic planning processes for continuous improvement.
Every school is unique, and I take the time to understand the specific context and needs of each institution I work with. Through collaborative efforts, I ensure that the solutions I provide are tailor-made to drive sustainable growth and positive change within the school community.
Though our journey together has just begun, I am eager to continue empowering schools to reach new heights of academic excellence and foster an inclusive learning environment that celebrates every student's potential. If you're ready to embark on a transformative educational journey, let's partner together and make a lasting impact on student learning!
